Treatment of Eating Disorders

Dr. Wendy Harris is the founder and Medical Director of Coastal Psychiatry Services.
 

She has expertise in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety, depression, women's issues and ADHD. Dr. Harris is skilled in using cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as dialectical behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr. Harris was formerly the Medical Director of the inpatient eating disorders unit of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical College. As an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Medical College, she worked closely with Dr. Katherine Halmi, one of the pioneers in the field of research and treatment of eating disorders. Dr. Harris supervised and taught medical students and residents as well.

Also, Dr. Harris was previously the Assistant Medical Director of the Wilkins Center, which is a nationally renowned outpatient eating disorder clinic. While there, she worked extensively with adolescents and adults with eating disorders, ranging from the severely ill to those in recovery. Dr. Harris also worked with those with additional diagnoses such as anxiety disorders and depression at the Wilkens Center. She also established and was the Director of the outpatient eating disorders treatment program at Mid Fairfield Child Guidance Center in Norwalk, CT.

Dr. Harris has 2 children of her own, both of whom have ADHD. It is from the experience of parenting children with special needs that Dr. Harris became particularly interested in supporting children and their families with learning differences or ADHD.

She brings her unique perspective of having the experience as both a mother and clinician to the practice, leading to an approach where excellent clinical care is delivered in an atmosphere of compassion and understanding. Dr. Harris is committed to providing high quality care to patients with personalized treatment which draws from a variety of evidence based therapeutic approaches and will provide therapy or medication management in collaboration with her patient's current therapist.

She received a BSc. in Physiology from McGill University and attended Weill-Cornell School of Medicine for her M.D. She completed her psychiatric residency at Yale University.

Dr. Harris is board certified in Psychiatry and is licensed in NY, CT, NJ, PA and ME.

Dr. Vicki Kalira is a compassionate and highly skilled dual-board certified addiction and general psychiatrist, committed to delivering personalized, evidence-based care. She treats adults with depression and anxiety and has a particular interest in trauma, the therapeutic use of psychedelics including ketamine, and substance use disorders.  Dr. Kalira brings both clinical excellence and a patient-centered approach to every interaction.

​

Dr. Kalira earned her Medical Degree through West Virginia University, completed her psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins University, and completed her addiction psychiatry fellowship at New York University.  In addition, in an effort to continually expand her clinical expertise and support her holistic approach to treatment, Dr. Kalira has participated in further clinical education including a two-year psychodynamic psychotherapy training program at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education (affiliated with NYU Langone Health); a Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD); and has obtained a certification as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.  Her multifaceted clinical approach seamlessly integrates medication management, psychotherapy, nutrition, and physical movement, with a strong emphasis on self-compassion.

​

Besides her private practice, Dr. Kalira is also currently serving as the Medical Director for Addiction Recovery Treatment Services at the VA Northern California Health Care System, one of the largest VAs in the country.

 

Dr. Kalira is licensed in New York, California, and Oregon.
